Preventing PFAS Pollution: Drinking Water Source Protections

In October 2023, a roundtable meeting was convened in Boise to talk about pollution prevention and form a Strategic Plan to address PFAS. Two goals of the plan are to promote safer alternatives to PFAS and to protect human health and the environment from PFAS exposure.

A group of volunteers from states in EPA Regions 8, 9 and 10 has put together this white paper (see below) about applying source water protection principles to PFAS contamination. This effort brings light to drinking water exposure as a public health risk and fits into the broader conversation on safer alternatives and industrial pretreatment permitting to prevent PFAS from entering the environment. These are voluntary measures not new EPA requirements.
