Industry Roundtable for Auto body Shops and Cabinet Manufacturing

  • Learn how to save up to 20% of your coating costs with spray efficiency training.
  • Learn how similar operations reduce toxics and hazardous materials usage.
  • Discuss advantages and barriers to using aqueous coatings.
  • Review best practices for maintenance and chemical storage to prevent spills and fire.
  • Network with peers using spray coatings.

Spray efficiency training improves painters’ efficiency by an average of 20 percent. This means less material purchased and wasted, less volatile organic compounds emitted into the air, and less hazardous waste generated. The result is annual savings of $5,000 to $50,000 per year per facility, better indoor and outdoor air quality, reduced liability and potentially reduced regulatory burden.

Many operations are switching to less hazardous materials. Learn about these initiatives, including the experience of other shops with water-based aqueous coatings for auto bodies and cabinets.

Maintenance of spray booths and chemical and waste storage are critical to preventing fires. Learn the four key elements to keep your employees and facility safe.

Network with your peers. The roundtable offers an opportunity to talk to your peers about their initiatives, successes, and challenges. It’s always good to stay connected.

This Roundtable is sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC) with a grant from U.S. EPA. PPRC is a non-profit dedicated to helping businesses and organizations prevent the generation of pollution by providing reliable, impartial, high-quality technical information, training, and services. PPRC will deliver in-person training and technical assistance to a limited number of businesses after the roundtable, based upon request of qualified facilities.

PPRC personnel are engineers and technical experts. They include:

Ken Grimm – Industrial Outreach Manager provides spray efficiency coating training. Ken has delivered training to dozens of community and technical colleges and more than 250 collision repair shops and industrial facilities using spray coating in the last 10 years.

Dave Kunz – Toxics reduction specialist and adjunct faculty at Portland State University and the University of Portland. Dave helped hundreds of businesses reduce their use of toxic and hazardous materials as the pollution prevention coordinator at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for more than 30 years.

Jean Waters – Project Manager and chemical engineer with more than 25 years of experience helping businesses with pollution prevention and sustainability, including energy efficiency and toxics reduction. Jean helps businesses and organizations with sustainability planning and implementation of behavior change initiatives.
