Liquid in Sumps

Description

  • Sumps should always have less than ½ inch of liquid in them

Advantages

  • reduces the risk of process chemicals leaking or leaching through the sump and contaminating the ground
  • regular inspection of liquid level in sumps will draw attention to upstream processes that need improved management

Implementation Process

  • determine why liquid is accumulating
    • not adequate sloping
    • evaluate upstream processes causing accumulation
    • pump is required, or needs maintenance
    • piping is not adequate or clogged
  • solve the problem
