Copper Cyanide
Description
- Use alkaline copper instead of copper cyanide
- Discontinue use of cyanide
Advantages / Limitations
Alkaline bath (non-cyanide)
- Cannot yet replace cyanide processes in all applications (ie: barrel plating zinc die castings due to the formation of a non-adhering immersion copper deposit)
- Many operate between the same plating properties as cyanide-copper baths
- Typically operate between 130 and 150oF, with air agitation
- Analysis and routine additions of the complexer are all that are typically needed to maintain the bath
- Removal of metallic impurities might be a major problem
- Alkalinity of the bath reduces corrosion tendency of un-plated surfaces such as internal areas of tubular parts
- Ideal for plating over iron, steel, pot metals
