Description
Brown grease is generated in food service establishments from fats, oils, and grease in food products. It is collected in grease traps and interceptors. Whereas yellow (fryer) grease is often used for biodiesel manufacture, almost all brown grease is still sent to landfills.
Currently brown grease is a cost to the principle stakeholders. Restaurants pay to dispose of it. Pumping companies often regard the hauling of brown grease to be a “loss-leader” and municipalities have to deal with sewage overflows caused by brown grease. Yet, the potential energy value of brown grease is high
This Symposium will explore the possibility that brown grease in the Puget Sound could be put into productive use as a fuel feedstock. All stakeholders involved in brown grease are invited to participate in the Puget Sound Brown Grease Symposium. Please join us to explore this challenging issue!
